A neck lift, also known as Platysmaplasty, is a cosmetic surgical procedure that restores a youthful and elegant appearance by addressing loose or sagging skin in your neck. Our process involves tightening the skin and muscles of your neck to improve the contour of your jawline. If you find your neck has a sagging quality, you may require a quality neck lift service from a verified professional.
Neck Lift Overview
These are just a few of the issues a Neck Lift can address:
- Vertical banding
- Horizontal Creases
- Fatty Jowls
- The dreaded “turkey-wattle”
- Skin that feels like it has a crepe-like quality to it.
Whatever the issue, a neck lift from Dr. Brent will deliver a smoother, more toned appearance to the skin under your chin and neck area that has lost its elasticity.
How a Neck Lift Works
Your platysma muscle, which you can see in a mirror when you clench your teeth, resides right under your neck’s skin. When you are young, this paired muscle meets in the midline directly below your chin. The more you age, the right and left sides of the platysma separate, producing vertical ‘cords’ in the neck.
During neck lift cosmetic surgery, the platysma is divided and tightened, removing the ‘cords’ permanently and improving your neck contour. The tightened platysma then creates a ‘sling,’ which elevates the soft tissue below your jawline. If you have excess skin or fat below your chin due to genetics, weight loss, age, and more, this procedure may be exactly what you’re looking for.
Neck Lift Procedures
At his practice in Beverly Hills, Dr. Brent offers several modern forms of neck lifts. Using his experience and expertise, Dr. Brent has improved on previous techniques to deliver exceptionally stunning results. Two of his favored methods include his signature “Neck-Lace®” method and a Corset Platysmaplasty.
The Necklace Neck Lift
Dr. Brent uses a signature technique that helps increase the firmness of your neck under the chin. Much like liposuction, deposits are removed from your neck and jaw. With these deposits gone, improving the tightness of your neck skin is much easier.
One example of the underlying structural changes associated with facial aging is the separation of the muscles that run along the front of the neck. As these muscles pull away from the midline of the neck, you will notice changes in your appearance. The result is vertical neck banding that becomes prominent and resistant to traditional neck lift techniques.
That is why Dr. Brent created and trademarked a signature procedure—the Necklace neck lift. Also called the Necklace platysmaplasty, it addresses this specific consequence of the aging process. Dr. Brent’s extensive facial surgery training makes him uniquely qualified to perform complex facial surgeries such as the Necklace® neck lift.
Dr. Brent’s trademarked Necklace neck lift technique can permanently reduce or eliminate the appearance of neck cords and elevate the soft tissues below the jawline. The result is significant improvement in the neck contours. Whether performed as a stand-alone procedure or with other facial rejuvenation services, a Necklace neck lift can radically improve your overall appearance and permanently restore a youthfully lifted neckline.
What Makes the Necklace Neck Lift Unique
Dr. Brent’s Necklace® Neck Lift specifically addresses the muscle aging and reduce vertical banding in the neck. When we are young, these muscles join at the center of the neck, but they begin to separate as we age. During a traditional neck lift, these muscles are simply tightened down the center. But this has its limitations.
Dr. Brent prefers to interweave the two sides of the muscle together in a broader fashion, much like a tightened shoelace. This distributes the tension to a larger surface area and lessens the strain on any suture placement site.
This unique method delivers several key benefits:
- Minimizes post-surgical complications
- Creates a smoother, more permanent result
- Significantly improves the neck’s angles.
With this procedure, the platysma muscle is tightened where it would normally be weakest–right under the chin. Dr. Brent uses the corset technique for patients who would benefit from a more dramatic rejuvenation of the whole neck region.
Corset Platysmaplasty effectively targets:
- Unsightly neck bands or cords
- The appearance of a double chin
- Fatty jowls in the neck/chin area
- Loose, sagging neck skin associated with the dreaded “turkey wattle” appearance
This is an effective tightening technique, not unlike that of lacing up a women’s corset. This helps create a taut, smooth muscle layer, and a sharp transition between the neck and jaw. This can be a complicated and time-consuming procedure. But patients will enjoy the natural, long-term results when it is performed by an expert.
Corset Platysmaplasty with Liposculpture
One of the advantages of this method is that it can take several forms. Depending on your aesthetic goals, you can combine it with other procedures.
This is the Corset platysmaplasty combined with a liposculpture procedure. In this service, we suture together the platysmal muscles, smoothing your neck as part of the liposuction process. This is preferable in patients who do not have a significant amount of skin laxity. The incision goes an inch or less underneath your chin. Most patients recover in five to seven days. All patients heal differently, but they will return to their regular activities in approximately two weeks.
Corset Platysmaplasty with Liposculpture Plus Face and Neck Lifting
This treatment smoothes your neck and jawline via multiple targeted incisions. The results are simply powerful, stunning, and long-lasting. We tend to recommend this method to patients who have significant skin sagging and are looking for a powerful rejuvenation method.
Since there are more parts to this technique, there can be a slight increase in total downtime. Recovery usually lasts ten days, with another two-to-three weeks before you can resume your regular routines. This is currently the gold standard for the rejuvenation of the face and neck.
THE 360-FACELIFT® NECK-LACE® WITH ANCILLARY PROCEDURES
This procedure is for patients who want a complete rejuvenation of their face. It combines various methods, such as:
- Dr. Moelleken’s signature LiveFill® graft insertion into your lips, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and other customized areas
- His signature Neck-Lace® procedure for additional neck tightening
- His signature USIC® (Ultrashort Incision Cheek Lift) procedure for under your eyes and cheeks using fat preservation
- Redistribution of lower eyelid fat, or LiveFill® grafts in patients with lower eyelid hollowness
- A complete Bidirectional Neck and Face Lift procedure with 100% volume retention and no SMAS removal
- Cheek augmentation with superior vector SMAS transfer;
- An upper Lip Lift (gull wing)
- Subcutaneous minimally invasive Brow Lift
- Central minimally invasive nerve-sparing brow muscle reduction, upper blepharoplasty
- Conservative laser resurfacing when required
A minimally invasive process that uses radiofrequency (R.F.) to heat and tighten the skin, producing new collagen in the process. The devices include the Accent, VelaSmooth, Thermage, Re-Firme, Polaris, Venus Freeze, and more.
Standard liposuction can help free your jaw and neck from fat deposits. When fat accumulates below your jawbone, fat reduction techniques such as liposuction or liposculpture of this area can be performed, which can result in massive improvement to neck appearance.
In some cases, the liposuction process includes surgical neck rejuvenation that will remove your fat directly via a small incision below your chin. The incision is small, generally less than a quarter of an inch, and will heal after three days, as long as you wear a dressing. The resulting fat reduction will make the neck appear longer, making your profile look more elegant and refined.
Lower Facelift & Neck Lift Procedure
A neck lift will often be combined with a laterally based skin-tightening procedure, such as a lower facelift.
This procedure can be performed in the office as an outpatient procedure and typically involves either general anesthesia or IV sedation. The lower face and neck lift can even be done under local anesthesia with oral sedation if necessary. The process generally takes about an hour, depending on the scale of correction needed.
During the procedure, we will make incisions in two possible spots:
- The natural shadow line of the ear cartilage
- Behind the ear
These locations help hide post-op scarring. Then, the lower face’s skin and fat are lifted, and the fascia is vertically tightened, giving the face a permanent, natural-looking lift. The vertical muscles of the neck are then interwoven together at the center of the neck. A sling eliminates any unsightly vertical banding. Excess fatty tissue is then removed through liposuction, and excess skin is tightened and removed. After corrections to the neck, permanent sutures or adhesive glue are used to maintain your desired shape.
Neck Lift Recovery
Recovery from a neck lift will take between 7 to 10 days. We recommend that you avoid brisk walking and other aerobic exercises for a month or so after surgery. Results should be visible immediately after the initial bruising and swelling diminish. You will see continuous improvement over the next 1-3 months as your body heals.
