Liposuction

Liposuction is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures in the United States. It has been a staple of plastic surgeons for several decades used by both men and women to remove unwanted areas of excess fat. Sometimes, diet and exercise simply cannot remove certain fat deposits, and lipo can help you finally reach the body you deserve.

Lipo Benefits

The procedure is a successful way to slenderize areas and sculpt regions of your body troubled by fat. As targeted fat deposits are removed, you will see a new figure and shape that fills you with confidence.

Besides the physical benefits, there are other benefits as well. The most significant improvement is that patients feel a new sense of self-esteem and confidence. This in turn can make you more motivated and active in life overall. With fat gone, even exercise becomes more enjoyable, allowing you to keep your new figure as the years go by.

It is important to note that lifestyle choices are essential following the procedure. Weight gain can occur again if your lifestyle does not involve healthy components. And we tend to advise against having liposuction in the same area twice.

Liposuction vs. Liposculpture

Liposculpture is a more cautious, refined form of liposuction. It is designed more for improving body shape rather than significant weight loss. This procedure slenderizes areas and sculpts regions of your body that have stubborn fat. The primary goal is to produce the ideal contour that blends in with the rest of your body.

Liposuction Process and Recovery

This operation is an outpatient procedure requiring only local anesthesia. However, our goal is to have our patients enjoy a comfortable experience every step of the way. Stronger sedation methods are available if needed.

Patients recover quickly and with very few side effects. The majority of patients may experience minor pain for a day or two before returning to their regular routines.

After your procedure, you will have to wear compression garments for a few weeks to reduce swelling and aid in skin contraction. The garments help to reduce any unevenness as well.

Your recovery time will depend on the type of procedure you have. However, below is a general outline for most recovery periods.

Typical Patient Recovery Time:

  • Drive a vehicle: after 4-5 days
  • Return to work: after 4-5 days
  • Resume light exercise: after 2-4 weeks

Is It Right for Me?

It is important to note that liposuction is not a weight-loss surgery. Instead, it is a procedure for individuals who are unable to achieve desired physical results through diet and exercise alone.

If you have put in the effort for weight loss, but are still unable to remove those final pockets of fat, this is the procedure for you.

Techniques & Options

There are many different liposuction surgery techniques available to help you achieve the body you want. With today’s technology, surgery has become a procedure that meets the highest safety standards, requires minimal downtime, and gives you excellent results.

Some of the techniques used include:

Traditional Liposuction

Uses negative pressure or vacuum suction to suck out the fat. Tubes (cannulas) have a relatively large diameter and remove fat quickly.

Power-Assisted Lipo

Power-Assisted Lipo uses a mechanized tip, which nibbles away at the fat. However, it requires using smaller cannulas.

Laser-Assisted Lipo

Laser-Assisted Lipo, also called SMART Lipo,  is a relatively new technique that uses a laser to rupture and liquefy fat cells. They are then removed through a very small cannula. Best for less-intensive body contouring.

Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction

Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction, also known as UAL,  is on the cutting edge of liposuction technology. The fat cells are liquefied with ultrasound waves emitted from a special cannula for easier removal.

Microliposuction

A minimally invasive procedure that uses a smaller tube to remove fat from hard-to-target areas.

Waterjet-Assisted Lipo

Waterjet-Assisted Lipo uses a jet of water to flush out your fat. This technique produces little tissue trauma, so recovery is speedy.

Radiofrequency-Assisted Lipo

Radiofrequency-Assisted Lipo, the newest technique, uses radiofrequency to melt your fat externally with simultaneous suctioning of your fat internally. It achieves the greatest degree of skin tightening.

Tumescent Technique

Using a special fluid, Dr. Brent causes fat tissue to swell. Tumescent Technique makes it easier to remove while avoiding bruising.

Super-Wet Technique

Similar to the tumescent technique, the amount of liquid injected is much less.
