The hybrid abdominoplasty ™ (hybrid tummy tuck™) is a short incision procedure that tightens the entire abdominal fascia. It differs from a traditional tummy tuck in that the incision is very short, approximately the same as for a C-section, rather than a hip-to-hip incision. It is most appropriate for women who are in excellent shape after they have had children, but who have a bulge.
When women have had children, the lining of the abdominal muscles, the so-called fascia, can rip and the abdomen can develop a bulge. This is a type of hernia, and other types of hernia may develop as well. The patient can often feel a layer of fat on the lower abdomen. The layer below that is called the fascia. Liposuction alone removes excess fat, but cannot tighten the fascia or remove hanging skin; for that, tightening the fascia via an abdominoplasty is necessary. There are several types of abdominoplasty, ranging from a minor removal of hanging skin (a micro-abdominoplasty) to a major abdominoplasty where a new umbilicus is made and the entire abdomen is tightened.
The hybrid abdominoplasty is a new technique that offers the maximum benefit for women and men who are seeking upper abdominal tightening with a minimal or “mini-tummy tuck” type of incision.
Dr. Moelleken and the individual patient can decide if the hybrid abdominoplasty is right for them at the time of the consultation.
