Perlane Details Beverly Hills
Neo Surgery Center is proud to offer Perlane®, the newest addition to the Restylane® family of products. Perlane® is an injectable cosmetic dermal filler in the Restylane® family that restores volume and fullness to skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Perlane® larger gel particles can reach the deep layers of the skin offering enhanced lifting power and with its unique ability to bind with water, Perlane® treatments are an exciting option if you are looking for skin rejuvenation. Hyaluronic acid is the science behind Perlane®, which is naturally present in youthful skin but recedes as you age. Perlane® injections boost your natural supply of hyaluronic acid and this can diminish the appearance of worry lines in the forehead, glabellar lines between your eyebrows, smile lines adjacent to your mouth, nasolabial folds or laugh lines from your nose to your mouth, and periorbital lines, also known as crow’s feet. It is also a popular filler for lip and chin augmentation and for filling facial depressions from scarring.
Young skin is smooth and full but it eventually changes with age. The good news is that you have the power to influence your appearance and Perlane® provides a rejuvenating cosmetic beauty treatment for a natural, younger-looking you. Perlane® is an FDA approved dermal filler and a safe, effective product for providing thinning skin and hollow areas with more volume. Perlane® is one of three different hyaluronic acid products that Neo Surgery Center uses for dermal filling: the other two are Restylane® and JUVEDERM®.
Dr. Moelleken believes that art and perspective comprise 30% of the surgical equation, while the other 70% come from unhurried, compassionate surgical judgment, knowledge, and technique. When you schedule a consultation with Dr. Moelleken, he will customize a plan that will meet all of your needs and expectations. Dr. Moelleken performs all consultations himself and he encourages you to seek several consultations and research any physicians’ credentials you are considering thoroughly before deciding on the right plastic surgeon. “Shaping the face” with Perlane® is a term used to describe how adding volume to your skin can reverse the signs of decreased collagen and elastin. The concept of “shaping the face” is important to understand when considering Perlane® injections because a qualified Perlane® injector does not just fill lines, they use the product to replace volume lost in your cheeks and midface. If you feel that your skin is losing volume and that you would like to achieve a younger appearance using a dermal filler like Perlane®, we invite you to contact Neo Surgery Center today.
The Aging Process
Your face changes over time as well as your impression of beauty. When you age, your skin’s building blocks, collagen and elastin, break down. When this happens, everyday facial expressions like frowning or smiling highlight creases, wrinkles, and hollow areas where volume is lost. Although the breakdown of collagen and elastin are impossible to prevent, there are ways to replace the volume lost from this process using dermal fillers like Perlane®. Dermal fillers are used to help slow the effects of the aging process on your skin and smoothing out folds and wrinkles by adding volume with cosmetic injections can make a huge difference in how you feel about your appearance. Young skin is supple because of a naturally occurring substance in your skin known as hyaluronic acid. The good news is that you can do something about volume loss with cosmetic filler treatments and the family of products that are available today.
Injections and Fillers
Injections and fillers come in many different types and formulas. One of the most popular techniques in the past was collagen injections but today, the fillers of choice are those composed of hyaluronic acid. Medical professionals can inject hyaluronic acid into your skin when it begins to fade, lose strength, and you start forming wrinkles. The injections and filler treatments offered at Neo Surgery Center are specifically designed to address age-related skin. Injections and fillers can add substance to thin lips, enhance shallow contours in your cheeks, soften facial creases and wrinkles, and improve the appearance of visible scars. Dermal fillers are used to help slow the effects of the aging process on your skin.
The benefits of injections and fillers are numerous. Though the results are not permanent, you can enjoy younger looking skin and continual injections and fillers are commonplace for maintenance. The continued aging of your face and other important variables in the absorption of the kinds of injections and fillers used will directly affect how long your results last. If you decide not to continue the treatments on a regular basis, your skin will return to its regular appearance. The results are incredible and can boost your self-esteem as well as your overall confidence. Treatment through injections or fillers is a cosmetic procedure. Complications from injections and fillers are relatively uncommon however as with any cosmetic procedure, there are certain risks involved and these will be discussed in detail with you before your treatment is performed.
In the world of selecting the right cosmetic filler, there is an enormous variety available to choose from. In 1996, the biotechnology company Q-Med of Sweden created a genetically engineered version of hyaluronic acid (Restylane® and Perlane®). Hyaluronic acid is a polysaccharide, or natural sugar, that is found in the structural element of your skin and in the subcutaneous and connective tissue. Hyaluronic acid is the water-soluble substance responsible for making a baby’s skin feel so soft and when we are young, we have higher levels of HA. The unique characteristic of hyaluronic acid is its ability to bind with water up to 1000 times its volume. This property makes it ideal as a filler agent because even while hyaluronic acid filler is being naturally degraded, it continues to attract more water to it and this characteristic allows it to hold its shape longer.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) approved the dermal filler Perlane® for implantation into the deep dermis to superficial subcutis for the correction of moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles. Because Perlane®, like Restylane®, is a wrinkle filler made from hyaluronic acid, it is a long-lasting gel injected with an ultra-fine needle. Perlane® is synthetically created from Streptococcus species of bacteria. The final product does not contain any bacteria but can cause allergic reaction if there is any previous history of problems with similar substances. The product is synthetically manufactured, which means that the risk of allergic reaction is minimal. The procedure is convenient and non-surgical and the results are virtually instantaneous. Perlane® is very different from Botox because it smoothes away wrinkles and fills thinning or hollow areas of the skin rather than relaxing underlying facial muscles, which is how Botox works.
What Conditions does Perlane® Treat?
Perlane injections are used to improve:
- Wrinkles on your face
- Decreasing fine lines around your lips, mouth, nose, and forehead
- Lip enhancement
- Chin and lip augmentation
- Filling cheek depressions
- Redefining lip border
- Softening acne scars
- Correcting the hollows around your eyes
- Improving facial depressions
- Smoker’s lines (perioral lines) or vertical lines on your mouth
- Marionette lines (oral commissures) or lines at the side of your mouth
- Deep smile lines (nasolabial furrows)
- Facial contouring
The main reason most patients are interested in Perlane® is to get rid of facial wrinkles and add moisture to their skin. The treatments can eliminate stubborn lines and crinkles that make you look sad, unhappy, and tired.
Because hyaluronic acid is found naturally in the body, there is no need for any skin testing before your Perlane® treatment. Perlane® is known as the “lunchtime procedure” because it can be performed in less than an hour. Dr. Moelleken will begin your treatment with an ultra-fine needle that injects the dermal filler just beneath the surface of your skin. Because of its hydrophilic, or “water-loving “nature, Perlane® attracts and binds water molecules to help maintain volume. Its three-dimensional structure allows it to bind water many times its own weight and this will provide continual filling as the gel begins to degrade harmlessly into your body. You may experience minimal discomfort after your Perlane® treatment but most patients resume activities immediately. The injection sites may be slightly swollen while bruising and tenderness may occur but this should subside in approximately two to three days. Perlane® is biodegradable so your results are not permanent. The effects are relatively long lasting however, remaining visible for up to six months or longer.
