Necklift Surgery Beverly Hills

The neck is one of the most structurally important parts of the body, and at the same time one of the most sensitive. Unfortunately, it is visibly affected by genetics, environmental damage, aging, and other changes our body goes through over time (i.e. significant weight fluctuations). You may notice the beginnings of a double chin or unsightly neck bands, or the skin on your neck and jowls may be sagging and loose, creating the unfortunate ‘turkey wattle’ appearance. And worst of all, many of these problems are stubbornly resistant to non-surgical correction. So if you have noticed that your wardrobe has become full of turtlenecks and scarves that you use to hide these problems, it may be time for neck lift surgery.

A neck lift is a surgical procedure designed to rejuvenate your overall appearance and help restore your youthful beauty by correcting aesthetic problems such as bands around the neck, lax neck muscles, sagging skin on the neck and jowls, fatty jowls, and double chins. It can be performed alone or in conjunction with other corrective procedures. For example, it is a perfect adjunct to a MACS (short scar) facelift, which corrects sagging tissue in the cheeks, chin, or nose but does not correct problems in the neck area. A neck lift can play an important role in secondary facelifts (usually performed 7-10 years after the original facelift), or it can also be performed as a secondary facelift, if additional correction to the upper face is not required. Whether you choose to have a neck lift as a stand-alone procedure or in conjunction with other procedures, a neck lift will allow you to get rid of those turtlenecks and scarves you have been hiding behind.

A neck lift involves a very sensitive, highly visible area of the body, and therefore should only be performed by a surgeon with extensive experience and expertise, who understands the importance of staying abreast of the latest surgical techniques. Dr. Moelleken is board certified in both plastic and reconstructive surgery, and one of only three surgeons in the world to complete a year-long Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship at UCLA. Dr. Moelleken and the staff at Moelleken Plastic Surgery in Beverly Hills and Santa Barbara pride themselves on listening to your needs and developing unique, individualized treatment plans designed to leave you looking youthful, revitalized, and naturally beautiful.

A neck lift can involve a variety of different surgical techniques, depending on the specific nature of the problem being addressed:

  • Weakened or loose neck muscles may be tightened or altered to correct a turkey wattle or banding around the neck
  • Excess muscle may be removed to lift and tighten the neck appearance
  • Liposuction can help to remove excess fatty tissue, minimizing the appearance of fatty jowls or a double chin
  • Loose, sagging skin can be tightened and excess skin tissue can be removed for more youthfully smooth neck contours

Your neck lift may involve a combination of some or all of the procedures/techniques mentioned above. Dr. Moelleken will work with you to develop a customized surgical plan that is designed to correct your individual problem areas and meet your specific aesthetic goals.

Neck lifts are performed on an outpatient basis, either using general anesthesia or intravenous sedation, depending on each patient’s unique medical requirements and the scale of the intended surgery. Whenever possible, Dr. Moelleken uses incisions behind the ears in order to minimize and hide post-surgical scarring. Once the corrections to the muscle, fatty tissue, and/or skin have been completed, permanent sutures or adhesive glue will be utilized to maintain the desired shape of the neck.

Recovery from a neck lift is relatively simple and will only require a couple of days of downtime, if no other procedures have been performed simultaneously. Patients will generally experience bruising and swelling around the jaw, ears, and neck, but any post-operative bruising should subside within a day or two of the procedure. The results of the neck lift will be visible immediately, but continued improvement will be noticed over the next 1-3 months.
